Clawson Works for a Permanent Solution to the SGR

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed a plan to fix the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate formula (SGR) passed in the early 1990's, with a long-needed, long-term solution that will protect seniors' healthcare in Southwest Florida.

Following his supportive vote, Congressman Curt Clawson (Fl-19) stated:

"After twenty temporary fixes over the past dozen years, the need was upon Congress to enact a permanent solution to the SGR, and today's bill will bring certainty to doctors, medical providers and their patients in Southwest Florida, and real savings for taxpayers. Today's bill will reassure seniors that they can count on Medicare and continue to see their own doctor, while also addressing the first entitlement reform in nearly twenty years and doing away with another one of Washington's budget gimmicks.

"As this bill progressed, and was being debated, I relied heavily of Jim Nathan and his staff at Lee Memorial Health System; Dr. Allen Weiss and his staff at Naples Community Hospital; and Drs. Frank Mazzeo, Jr. and Jorge Quinonez of the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida for their excellent input and information on how this will help keep doctors in Southwest Florida and our local medical systems secure for our seniors.
